DICJ asks operators to reinforce preventative measures

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has asked its local gaming operators to reinforce preventive measures in their casinos, amid the outbreak of the coronavirus in Mainland China, local media reports.

According to Chinese authorities, the death toll from the new virus rose to six, with 258 confirmed cases recorded so far.

The Macau government also noted it has set up a contingency center and has extended the control of body temperature to all tourists from China. Temperature checks are also being conducted at all 405 public entrances and 47 staff entrances in Macau’s 39 casinos.

Yesterday, Bernstein analysts noted that it is too early to forecast any impact of the virus (or fear of the virus) on Macau’s gaming industry, but noted it could impact GGR should the spread of the virus worsen.

The upcoming Lunar New Year celebration is expected to see another massive influx of mainland Chinese tourists to Macau.
