DICJ to keep a lid on junket numbers

Although the VIP sector is showing signs of rebound, Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau director Paulo Martins Chan says his department will endeavor to maintain the same number of junkets regardless.

The director made the comments to local reporters the sidelines of the G2E Asia conference on Wednesday.

According to Chan, the department is currently in the middle of auditing Macau’s junket operators, with around 40 out of 120 junkets’ operations reviewed at this point. He said the audit is likely to be complete by August.

“Some are good, some need some improvement; we have told them to improve their accounting system. Of course we want to keep those that are financially healthy and are capable,” said Chan.

He did not elaborate how serious the accounting flaws were.
