DraftKings eyes lucrative sports betting space

Fantasy sports operator Draftkings is reportedly hoping to get a foothold into the sports betting space, according to a report from Associated Press.

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to make a decision that would open up sports betting on a state-by-state basis by June this year.

Jason Robins, CEO of Boston-based DraftKings said the company is “certainly going to go after it.”

“I think the Supreme Court — I’m hopeful — will rule that way. You can’t really predict what the government will do, but you have to be prepared,” said Jason in a telephone interview with AP.

“Most of the people I know who bet on sports [also] play fantasy, and vice versa. And they’re doing it for basically the same reason: It makes sports more interesting.”

However, Robins said that the company will not lose its focus on its core product - fantasy sports.

“Fantasy will continue to grow, and may even be able to grow faster,” he said. “So we can’t take our eye off the ball. They’re both very important products for us to focus on.”
