Easwar recommends increasing TDS limit for gaming winnings

A committee headed by RV Easwar has recommended increasing the threshold limit for Tax Deduction at Source on winnings from gambling to Rs. 15,000 (US$222.1) from the existing threshold of Rs 10,000, reports GLaws.

The committee recommendations, if accepted by the government will provide some relief to poker, rummy  and other skill games players who have been dealing with high taxation rates, but it will not help that much as the current tax rate of 30 percent is not likely to be lowered by the government.

According to local media, the government is seriously considering the recommendations, and will introduce the necessary legislative changes in the upcoming budget.
