Facial recognition and AI used to enforce casino entry ban in Macau

Macau gaming scholar, Wang Changbin, believes that facial recognition technology can be used to identify casino employees in breach of their off-duty casino entry ban, Macau Business reports.

Wang claimed that casino operators are already combining surveillance equipment and artificial intelligence to track the flow of people through resorts, money spent and the value of cards held by players.

Wang said this same technology could be used to identify banned persons from casinos - which help to fulfill the new casino entry bans imposed on off-duty casino staff as of December 2018.

Melco Resorts, in its recent sustainability and corporate social responsibility report, said it will be implementing a  biometric intelligence system known as Melguard to limit the entry of casino staff onto the gaming floor.

The latest generation of systems is due to be installed in its Macau and Manila properties in 2019.
