Fifa bans Chuck Blazer

Fifa has banned former executive committee member Chuck Blazer for widespread corruption after he pleaded guilty to charges of bribery, money laundering and tax evasion.

The ban follows arrests in May of several Fifa officials on charges of racketeering, fraud and money laundering.

A Fifa statement said Blazer "committed many and various acts of misconduct".

He admitted receiving payments in a $10 million bribe scheme to support South Africa's successful 2010 World Cup hosting bid. 

Blazer was the second highest official in Fifa's North and Central American and Caribbean region from 1990 to 2011 and also served on Fifa's executive committee between 1997 and 2013.
