Francis Lui faces the Japanese media

Galaxy Entertainment Vice-Chairman Francis Lui led a roundtable event with Japanese journalists in Tokyo on Tuesday, explaining his company’s interest in the Japanese IR market. As he spoke, he was flanked by Ted Chan, chief operating officer for Japan development, and Satoshi Okabe, general manager of the Japan office.

Lui’s presentation did not offer too many revelations beyond what the Galaxy team had previously stated, but he did confirm that they have participated in all of the RFI processes held by Japanese local governments so far—that is, Osaka, Hokkaido, Tomakomai, Nagasaki, Yokohama, Wakayama, and Aichi.

As before, Galaxy does not seem to have committed itself to any particular strategy at this time, although they have already built one of the most formidable in-country teams among the international IR operators.

The one fresh insight that Lui did offer was to suggest that Galaxy is still trying to figure out what the Japanese government really hopes to get out of its IRs. Once Galaxy has a clearer idea about the government’s true objectives, this will give them a clearer basis for how they will design their IR proposals.
