G2E Asia eyes increased numbers

G2E Asia kicks off in Macau on Tuesday and hopes to build on last year’s record-breaking attendance, with an increased focus on non-gaming activities.

Running from May 19th to May 21st, the show is now in its ninth year.

Josephine Lee, the Senior Vice President of Reed Exhibitions China, which organizes the event, told local media that she was not expecting the downturn in the gambling industry to affect attendance at this year’s show.

She said the number of pre-registration visitors has increased 10 percent. As of last week, there had been 5,000 pre-registrations, of which 20 percent are new to the show.

In 2014, G2E Asia drew 8,233 visitors, up 36 percent from the year before, including more than 95 percent of Asia’s top casino and integrated resort operators, and 160 exhibiting companies from China and abroad.

More than half of last year’s visitors came from overseas, an increase of 43 percent from 2013.

As Macau steps up efforts to expand its non-gaming activities, there will be an increased focus on aspects other than gaming, including a night-life pavilion to bring suppliers and high-profile brands from the international clubbing scene to the gaming industry.
