Galaxy launches IR industry education program for Japanese students

Galaxy Entertainment announced on Monday its “Japan-Macau Integrated Resort Management Mentorship Pilot Scheme,” a partnership with Toyo University to educate Japanese students about IR management, looking forward to the development of the new industry in the mid-2020s.

The press release noted that “the Mentorship Scheme is intended to identify and give the coming generation of IR professionals in Japan a first-hand look at what it takes to develop and operate the world’s most successful IR – Galaxy Macau.”

It also noted that the benefits are expected to flow in both directions: “This cross-fertilization of experience and exchange of ideas, with Galaxy sharing its deep knowledge and expertise in IR management; while Japan, appreciated globally for its legendary service philosophy and approach to hospitality, or ‘Omotenashi,’ has the potential to benefit and further enhance the IR industry in Macau.”

Francis Lui, Galaxy Vice-Chairman, commented, “Together with the GEG Foundation, and the support of University of Macau, we are very pleased to share our philosophy for sustainable and responsible IR development with what we hope will be the future homegrown leaders of IRs in Japan. As a group we are passionate about nurturing the next generation and in giving them the best possible opportunities for their future careers. And we recognize that Macau, and Galaxy, have both the vision and an opportunity to share its formula for success with Japan as it embarks on the path of IR implementation.”

The Galaxy initiative is different from the education offered by institutions such as the Japan Casino School and Japan Casino Academy in the sense that it is not focused on the casino floor, but is rather aimed at teaching young Japanese about IR management more broadly, encompassing the non-gaming aspects as well.
