Gaming operators agree with smoking lounge proposal

Macau’s gaming operators have agreed with the proposed specifications for smoking lounges made by the Health Bureau, according to the bureau’s deputy director, Cheang Seng Ip, local media reports.

The Health Bureau requires that smoking lounges in casinos generate a negative pressure of at least -5 pascal in order to prevent cross-contamination from room to room.

According to the deputy director, the health bureau is now discussing the details of operations procedures.

In February, the government proposed amendments to the smoking bill which would allow the establishment of smoking lounges in the city’s casinos, local media reports.

The Health Bureau said the amendments were in line with the survey results commissioned by the city’s gaming operators.

The survey, which sought the opinion of over 14,000 Macau gaming employees on smoking lounges in casinos saw around 55 percent of employees being in favor of the lounges.
