Goa grants another six months to casinos in River Mandovi

The Goa government has granted an extension of six months to offshore casinos operating in the Mandovi River, according to state Public Works Department Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, local media reports.

Under the new extension, the offshore casinos will be allowed to continue to operate in the river until March 30, 2019, or until an alternative site is decided, whichever comes first.

There are currently six offshore casinos operating in the Mandovi River.

In August, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that offshore casinos in the state will be eventually shifted to a designated gaming zone - within a period of four years.

Moving the state’s floating casinos to an onshore location is expected to be a gamechanger for operators, creating scope for the construction of IRs.
