Gold Moon Group ceases VIP operation at Wynn Macau

Macau junket operator Gold Moon Group has reportedly ceased its operation in Wynn Macau from May 21, according to labor group Forefront of Macau Gaming (FMG).

The internal notice sent from the junket to its workers was posted online by FMG, stating the closure was due to Wynn Macau’s decision to “terminate its co-operation with the VIP operator from this month.”

The Gold Moon Group has since confirmed it no longer operates at Wynn Macau in a message to Macau Business Daily.

The junket also announced it would end its labor contracts with all employees in the VIP room, and provide severance pay based on Macau’s labor laws.

This is not the first time the operator has shut down a VIP room. In January 2015, the Gold Moon Group shut down its VIP room in Sands Cotai Central.

It is now left with two VIP rooms in Altira Macau and Galaxy Macau.

In February, President of the Association of Gaming and Entertainment Promoters of Macau, Kwok Chi Chung had warned of the continuing consolidation of the junket industry in Macau.

“The current situation is like the aftershocks following an earthquake. After some time, some VIP rooms may have seen the number of customers that they receive is not enough to support their operations. As such, they may prefer shifting some of their resources and focuses from Macau to other places in order to decrease their operational costs here,” he said at the time.
