Govt mulls ID cards for POGO workers

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) is considering the issuance of identification cards specifically for Chinese POGO workers to ensure the legality of their working visa and tax compliance, local media reports.

Speaking on CNN Philippines News Night on Tuesday, Pagcor chair  Andrea Domingo said the agency is working with government agencies involved in the issuance of visas for what it called a "gaming employment license" (GEL).

"They (Chinese POGO workers) cannot get a GEL, and they cannot work until they are properly documented by having properly, legally acquired working visa and having a BIR [tax identification number], so that they are able to pay their taxes," she said.

According to Domingo, there are around 130,000 to 135,000 Chinese nationals employed in the gambling hubs.
