Immigration official denies bribery in blocking Wang Bo deportation

An official from the Philippines’ Bureau of Immigration said he was not bribed to dismiss the deportation of a Chinese gambling lord, local media reported.

Immigration Associate Commissioner Gilbert Repizo said the decision to not have Wang Bo sent back to China was the result of a vote with other commissioners in favor of Wang’s stay based on the letter claiming the Chinese Embassy's request for his deportation was allegedly not authenticated, the PhilStar reported.

The move to keep Wang -  who is wanted in China for corruption -  in the country prompted the  Department of Justice to order an investigation into the decision amid suspicions Wang bribed Filipino officials with millions of pesos.

The money was said to have been given as gifts to members of the House of Reprentatives and as funds for the Liberal Party's campaign in the 2016 elections, the PhilStar reported.
