India extends nationwide lockdown to May 3

India Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended India’s coronavirus lockdown until at least May 3, as the country confirms 10,363 cases as of Monday.

The three-week lockdown of the nation began on March 25 and was originally scheduled to end on Tuesday.

"From the economic angle, we have paid a big price," Modi said in a nationwide address. "But the lives of the people of India are far more valuable."

Modi, however, said that he would consider easing restrictions in areas further away from infection hotpots on April 20.

Last week, chief minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant recommended the lockdown of the state continue until April 30. Goa is home to the bulk of the countries’ offshore and onshore casinos.
