IPI brings in Italian construction workers

Saipan casino operator Imperial Pacific International has turned to Italian construction workers to finish its project in Garapan.

According to the Saipan Tribune, quoting local sources, less than 100 Italian workers recently arrived in Saipan to help finish the project.

Sources said the hired Italians will work on the facade of the building, but it is not clear as to why IPI has chosen to hire Italians.

Earlier this year, the CNMI Department of Labor granted IPI’s request for an exemption to the 30 percent U.S. citizen hiring requirement for construction jobs, after a mass exodus of its Philippine construction workers.

However, the casino operator was allowed the exemption for two years only.

It was also reported earlier in the year that IPI is attempting to hire construction workers in South Korea and Taiwan as the two countries are on the DHS list of H-2B eligible nations.
