IR regulations not yet decided: Expert

Toru Mihara, a key member of the Experts’ Committee that compiled the report upon which Japan’s IR Implementation Bill will be based, vigorously defended the report against accusations that the regulations it imposes are too strict toward businesses.

“There is no system yet,” Mihara declared, “What we offer in the report are various options for a basic direction… All the decisions must still be taken at the political level.”

Mihara went on to energetically reject any such criticism of the report: “The precise levels at which the regulations will be set is a future discussion. So I can’t understand what people are talking about when they claim that the regulations are too strict.”

Mihara was speaking at the Monday symposium in Tokyo called “The Whole Story about Japanese-Style IRs,” organized by Ohta Publications.

News reports have suggested certain levels at which casino floor sizes might be limited and other matters. Mihara rejects the notion that any precise limits have been set, in spite of what has been widely reported in the media.
