Kerala introduces special lottery for flood victims

The state of Kerala has decided to introduce a special lottery in order to provide funds for thousands of people affected by recent devastating floods.

The decision to introduce the special lottery was taken at a state Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The state has also asked for the GST Council’s permission to introduce a 10 percent cess on GST as part of efforts to mobilize more resources for rehabilitation.

The floods, one of the worst ever in Kerala, left 223 people dead and more than 100,000 homeless.
