Kerala minister dubs Mizoram lottery sale as illegal

Kerala Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has outlawed the sale of Mizoram lottery tickets in the state, and says an investigation into their sale will be conducted.

"Selling of lottery tickets of Mizoram in the state is illegal and it is without getting the state's permission," said Isaac, according to India Today.

"The lottery (tickets) coming into the state is not the Mizoram lottery, but tickets of lottery king Santiago Martin," he alleged.

In June, the Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) of India pointed out various irregularities in the conduct of Mizoram state lotteries and violation of several rules.

Isaac said the sale of the illegal lottery tickets in the state went into higher gear after the new GST laws came into effect.

The government has issued notification imposing restrictions on the sale of lottery tickets of other states, he said.
