Konami revenue down 8 percent in FY17

Konami Holdings Corp reported a 8 percent decline in total revenue for the year ended March 31, 2017, though gaming and systems revenue fell 3 percent.

Total profit for the year increased to JPY 25.9 billion (US$227.6 million).

Konami’s gaming and systems segment, which involves the production, manufacture, sale and service of gaming machines and casino management systems for overseas markets, saw total revenue drop to JPY 31.3 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 3 percent, while segment profit was JPY 4.8 billion.

Konami said the gaming and systems segment was especially strong in the North American market, but “total revenue and segment profit decreased due to an increase in development costs for new products and the effect of exchange rate changes by the sharply rising yen,” said the company in its filing.

In addition to its gaming business, Konami is also engaged in Digital entertainment, which involves the production, manufacture and sale of digital content; Health & fitness, related to the operation of health and fitness clubs, and production, manufacture and sale of health and fitness related goods, and; Amusement, which involves the production, manufacture and sale of arcade games and pachislot machines and pachinko machines.
