Large pachinko chains aid victims of July flooding disaster

The largest pachinko parlor chains have been finding ways to offer support to the victims of the July heavy rains across Western Japan, which took the lives of more than 230 people, especially in Hiroshima and Okayama prefectures.

Among the other effects, many local pachinko parlors themselves were damaged in the flooding.

Maruhan organized at least three squads of company volunteers to travel to Kurashiki city, Okayama Prefecture and offer a hand to those still dealing with the flood debris. These activities are ongoing.

Meanwhile, Dynam announced that it collected over JPY40 million (about $357,000) and donated through the Japan Red Cross. Much of this money was offered by Dynam customers at donation boxes set up in pachinko parlors across the nation.

The nation’s third-largest pachinko chain by number of outlets, Gaia, also offered smaller donations to the Central Community Chest of Japan and other public welfare organizations.
