Legionnaires bacteria found again at The Parisian

Traces of Legionella bacteria have been discovered again at the Parisian Macao, months after unsafe levels of the bacteria were first found in the hotel resort.

Earlier this year in April, the Health Bureau revealed it was investigating three cases of Hong Kong residents who had reportedly contracted the Legionnaires Disease at the property.

The disease is known to cause serious infection in the lungs, with symptoms similar to the flu.

The property was later given the all clear in June, after a second wave of inspections was conducted on the Parisian’s facilities.

However, the Bureau says water samples it had collected in October has showed positive for the bacteria in certain areas, with samples collected in a shopping centre bathroom, swimming pool spa, in the Aqua World spa, a restaurant bathroom, and a basement hot water tank.

The health bureau has asked the hotel to resolve the situation as soon as possible and take effective action to prevent customers from contracting the bacteria.
