Lottery sales up 3.5 percent in 16H1

Lottery sales in China were RMB 194.3 billion (US$29.3 billion) in the first half of 2016, up 3.5 percent year-on-year.

According to data from the Ministry of Finance, welfare lottery sales declined by 0.5 percent year-on-year to RMB 102.3 billion in 16H1, while sales of sports lottery products went up 8.4 percent to RMB 92.0 billion.

The data also saw June’s sales reach RMB 34.0 billion, up 20.8 percent compared to the same month in 2015.

The jump in lottery sales can be partly attributed to the Euro 2016 tournament which took place between June and July.
