Macau airport to handle 5.95 million passengers in 2016


Macau’s airport operator says it is expecting to handle 5.95 million passengers in 2016, a 2 percent increase from 2015, according to a recent statement from the company.

The airport operator also expects the airport to handle 57,500 take offs and landings this year. The statement also says the company expects the rate of growth in annual passenger throughput to be slower than 2015 by 6.4 percent.

According to Macau’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), visitor arrivals saw a month-to-month increase in December, but the annual total for 2015 decreased by 2.6 percent year on year.

For the whole year of 2015, visitor arrivals totalled 30.7 million, down by 811,004 year-on-year; same-day visitors (16.4 million) and overnight visitors (14.3 million) decreased by 3.3% and 1.8% respectively. The average length of stay of visitors was 1.1 days in 2015, up by 0.1 day year-on-year.
