Macau authorities bust proxy gambling ring

Macau’s Judiciary Police have arrested 17 people in connection with a HK$10 million illegal gambling ring, Macau TDM reports.

Officials said the syndicate was run by locals and mainland Chinese, which recruited customers through the social media app WeChat.

According to police, the gambling ring would live stream gambling results to customers via the app’s group chat function.

Computers, mobile phones and a small amount of cash at a residential unit in the NAPE district have been seized by police along with gambling chips worth almost HK$1.7 million.

The arrested could face charges of running a criminal syndicate and an illegal gambling business.

The case has been sent to the Public Prosecutions Office.
