Macau eyes Indonesian tourists

The Macau Government Tourism Office is making moves to attract more Indonesian tourists to the Asian gaming hub, local media reports.

In a press conference announcing the appointment of VFS Global as Macau’s representative in Indonesia, MGTO director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said she wished to ensure that Macau becomes “appealing to the largest bloc of tourists in Southeast Asia,” and plans to establish a “safe, versatile, culture-rich and historical” destination for Indonesian tourists.

According to data from the MGTO, over 163,000 Indonesian tourists visited the gaming hub in 2015.

While Macau is known for its many gambling offerings, the MGTO stresses that it is optimistic that the territory can cater to Indonesia’s specific needs, such as halal food and non-gaming entertainment.

“We hope that the Indonesian people can see and experience what we have to offer,” said Fernandes.
