Macau Feb. arrivals drop almost 96%


Macau visitor arrivals tumbled almost 96 percent in February due to travel restrictions imposed because of the coronavirus, however, the average length of stay improved. 

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the number of visitors in the month was 156,394. Same-day visitors were 81,090 and overnight visitors 75,304, down  by 96.0 percent and 95.0 percent respectively. 

The average length of time the visitors were staying in Macau went up by 1.8 days to 2.8 days, while the average duration for overnight visitors surged from 2.1 days last year to 5.4 days in 2020. There was also growth in the proportion of overnight visitors among Mainland Chinese to 54.9 percent. 

Visitors from most destinations recorded drops of more than 90 percent, with Mainland visitors down 97.2 percent. Those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme were down by 99.6 percent.
