Macau gaming-related crime up 13.5 percent in 16H1

Macau has recorded a 13.5 percent rise in gambling-related crime in the first half of 2016, according to Macau’s Secretary for Security, TDM reports.

A total of 814 cases out of 7135 crime cases involved the gaming industry, said Wong Sio Chak, adding that a lot of these cases have started to spill over outside of casinos, namely those involving loan-sharking.

"Starting from July, crime cases involving gambling affairs have indeed expanded to outside of casinos. We need to emphasise this," said Wong.

"We will increase the number of criminal investigators and strengthen the regulation on any illegal activities or organisations. This will emphasise the regulation and investigation on overseas crime syndicates," he added.
