Macau gaming slump could end in Feb; Wilfred Wong

Sand China Ltd’s president and chief operating officer Wilfred Wong says he expects the slump in Macau’s gaming industry to end as early as this month, according to an interview with Bloomberg.

“It’s scary that Macau’s gross gaming revenue has seen declines for 20 months but I have confidence the drop could end in February,” said Wong. The newly appointed chief operating officer of Sands said Macau saw increased tourists from mainland China, which boosted both mass and VIP segments during the period.

Sands will see relatively flat results in 2016 compared with last year as the casino industry recovers, said Wong.

Wong also said Sands China’s Parisian development may open its half-sized replica of the Eiffel Tower before its September targeted opening, as part of a promotional push to draw tourists.
