Macau government renews lottery concession

The Macau government has renewed a concession for Sociedade de Lotarias e Apostas Mutua de Macau to run instant lotteries and sports betting, according to the Official Gazette.

The concession, which had been due to expire on June 5th has been renewed for one year.

The company, which trades under the name Macauslot, holds the monopoly in Macau of betting on sport other than horse racing and dog racing.

Some experts have said the government should open up the lottery and sports betting market to more competition to breathe more life into the flagging sector.
