Macau government subsidizes domestic tourism

From Wednesday the Macau government is launching a temporary program to subsidize domestic tourism within the territory.

The project is called “Macao Ready Go! Local Tours” and it will allow Macau residents to sign up for local tours scheduled between June 22 and September 30. Each participant will be subsidized at the level of MOP280 patacas (US$36) per tour, with a maximum subsidy of MOP560.

The various tours cover a total of fifteen possible itineraries in two categories, “Community-based Tours” (six itineraries) and “Leisure Tours” (nine itineraries).

The Macau government hopes that this program will sustain economic activity within the struggling tourism industry at a time when most outside travelers are unable to enter the territory.
