Macau hotel occupancy and prices down in 2015


The average occupancy rate of Macau’s three, four and five-star hotels decreased by 1.5 percentage points to 87.9 percent in Dec. 2015, compared to the same period in 2014, according to the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO).

The average room rate fell to MOP1,573 (US$196) per night, down 4.6 percent from a year earlier.

Only Macau’s four-star hotels registered a higher occupancy rate, going up 1.6 percent year on year to 88.7 percent, but at the cost of lower room rates, down by 20 percent at MOP 843.4 on average per night.

For the entire year of 2015, MGTO data shows occupancy rate for all hotels was down 6.7 percent year on year, to 83.8 percent, with an average price of MOP1,491 which is 7.8 cheaper than 2014.
