Macau Labour Affairs Bureau to hold on-the-job training programs for casino staff

The Labour Affairs Bureau is planning to hold on-the-job training programs for local casino workers to upgrade their skills in non-gaming activities, TDM Macau reported.

The bureau also wants to team up with gaming companies to provide large facility management training as the government looks to diversify from its flagging gaming industry.

The government said before that they have requested the six gaming operators to provide on-the-job paid training.

The Labour Affairs Bureau says it's concerned about the job market situation and is planning to provide training programs for local residents to upgrade their skills in non-gaming activities.

As some large projects in Cotai are near completion, the Bureau is also considering introducing programs focused on facility management.

“Paid training means that it is for the companies' workers. The employees would be given paid time off work to undergo training.  It is not that the government will be giving subsidies”, the Bureau’s deputy director Lau Wai Meng was quoted by TDM as saying.
