Macau lawmaker proposes easing of gaming tax

A Macau lawmaker has proposed a lowering of gaming tax to increase the region’s competitiveness, said Bernstein in a note on Tuesday.

Macau legislator, Mak Soi Kun recently proposed the tax change in order to better compete with Philippines and Singapore, which have lower gaming tax rates.

Mak proposed a move to a “point system”, which could provide tax incentives for concessionaires that successfully implement “socially responsible and non-gaming related projects”

However, Bernstein says “any change in gaming tax rates is highly unlikely to occur before the concession.”
