Macau Legend positioning for gaming concessionaire: reports

Macau Legend Development Ltd. said it will try “its best” to apply for a gaming concessionaire license come renewal period, Macau Business reports.

Macau Legend currently owns two casinos at Fishermans Wharf, the Babylon Casino and Legend Palace Casino, which operate under the casino license of SJM Holdings.

“We don’t know yet whether the government is planning more licenses or to let new companies to do a bid. If it is possible our company will try its best. We are quite an aggressive Macau company […] based and built up in Macau. If the terms come out we will try our best to get it,” said Melinda Chan Mei Yi, the president of  Macau Fisherman’s Wharf International Investment Ltd, a subsidiary of Macau Legend Development.

SJM Holding’s gaming concession is set to expire in 2020. There have been talks of whether the government will extend the concession to 2022 to put it in line with the other concessionaires, but this has not yet been confirmed by the government.

Looking ahead, Ms. Chan said the group is looking to increase the room capacity of Legend Palace Hotel.

“Legend Palace only has 200 rooms so I’m planning to have more, but I haven’t made the submission yet, we’re trying to do the design. I’m planning to have 90 to 96 rooms in our building. A few years ago that area was already approved as hotel so we are just only changing some functions inside,” she said.

The company is also aiming to renovate the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf Convention & Exhibition Centre and retail shops in the hotel.

Ms. Chan said the company is also working on providing more non-gaming offerings, including a VR zone developed by a “famous Japanese gaming and movie company, along with a Wax Museum on the Legend Boulevard.
