Macau MICE participation rises in Q1, events fall


Macau’s Q1 MICE statistics showed the gaming hub hosted few events, but the larger exhibitions and conferences drove total participation up by 31.5 percent

A total of 328 events were held in the quarter, including 314, meetings and conferences, 10 exhibitions and 4 incentives. The number of meetings and conferences fell by 30 from the same period last year, according to figures from the Census and Statistics Bureau.

The number of participants in those events rose 31.5 percent to 71,000, while those attending MICE events with more than 200 participants jumped 46.3 percent.

Meetings & conferences of 4 hours or more totalled 224, down by 23 year-on-year, while number of participants expanded by 48.1 percent to 65,000.

The  total floor area used more than doubled to 551,000 m2.

All the exhibitions held in the first quarter were organised by non-government organisations, an increase of three year-on-year.
