Macau sees June GGR at about $2b - $2.06b, says no austerity plans yet

Macau Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong says gaming revenue for June was probably around MOP16 billion to MOP16.5 billion ($2 billion- $2.06 billion), but says it’s not yet necessary to launch austerity measures.

It will be the 13th consecutive monthly decline, with a drop of about 41 percent from the MOP 27.1 billion recorded in June last year.

Leong said such measures are only necessary if average monthly GGR drops below MOP20 billion. From Jan to May, Macau has collected about MOP104 billion, which together with the MOP16 billion in June makes for a monthly average higher than the threshold, he was cited as saying by local media.

“If there’s a further drop in gaming revenue in July that will push down the average to below 20 billion patacas the government will have to launch some austerity measures,” he said, but added the government will not cut down social benefits.
