Malaysia chief minister dismisses claims of Penang casino

Malaysia’s Chief Minister has dismissed the claim by an assemblyman that the Penang government will build a casino in the state, Bernama reported.

Lim Guan Eng said it was the policy of the state government not to allow a casino in Penang because it was not suitable for the local economy and the people.

“I was shocked by the statement (of the assemblyman) because it is slanderous. When I assumed the post of chief minister in 2008, I stated that it was my stand and that of the state government that we will not allow a casino to be built in the state,” he told a press conference.

Last month, Chinese media quoted assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu as saying he had heard rumors that a casino would be built on Penang Hill.
