Marina Bay Sands shows interest in Thailand

Marina Bay Sands in Singapore is interested in running a casino and convention complex in Thailand, local Thai media reported.

Krist Boo, vice president for communications, said the resort would be on a par with the Singapore property, The Nation reported.

"We want to invest in Thailand if we are given permission. It must be the [same] kind of integrated resort as in Singapore," Boo said.

However the resort, which would include MICE facilities, all depends on the Thai government and the decision of the Thai people, who have become more engaged in the debate recently to legalize casinos.

"We have been searching for new investment not only in Thailand but also all places. Although Thailand has no casino act yet, if this about to happen, it is very interesting," she said.

Sands Corp has expressed an interest in setting up a resort in Thailand before but was rejected by the government.

The Finance Minister Sommai Phasee has said if casinos were to be legalized they should be part of an “entertainment complex,” which would include other services such as shopping malls and conference facilities

The finance ministry is currently revising the master plan for a vast plot of land used by the State Railway of Thailand, which is expected to become an entertainment complex.
