Mass gaming growth boosts Emperor half-year profit

Emperor Entertainment Hotel Limited saw its profit attributable to owners of the company increase 37.4 percent year-on-year to HK$177.2 million (US$22.6 million) for the six months ended September 30.

Revenue increased 1.9 percent year-on-year, driven by a 2.4 percent increase in gaming revenue.

Emperor said that the organic expansion of the mass gaming market and enhanced customer services saw mass gaming revenue across its properties increase 22.1 percent to HK$676.9 million.

However, the group’s self-managed VIP room (10 tables) fell 26.3 percent to HK$160.2 million. Hotel revenue fell slightly in the half-year period.

Looking ahead, Emperor says that the expanding middle class and a more comprehensive transportation network will bring more mainland China tourists to Macau and that it remains optimistic about the long term outlook for the Macau gaming market.

“In order to stay competitive in the marketplace, the Group will continue strengthening its efforts to improve customer segmentation and customer service, aiming to create pleasant experiences for its mass customers and provide premium services for the targeted segments,” said the company in a filing.

The board has declared an interim dividend of HK$0.030 per share for the period.
