Melco’s Morpheus to open June 15

Melco’s newest development, Morpheus, is set to open on June 15, 2018, according to an announcement from Lawrence Ho, chairman and CEO of Melco.

Mr. Ho was speaking at a sneak-peak media press briefing at the Grand Hyatt in Macau on Tuesday, followed by a media tour.

The $1.1 billion hotel tower is best known visually for its unique exterior exoskeleton, an architectural feat that has never been done before.

“From the get-go, we wanted to be different,” said Ho.

Regarding its gaming and non-gaming facilities, Lawrence said that he wanted to create an integrated resort that is “beyond gaming.”

“In most of our resorts, less than five percent of GFA is in gaming,” he said, adding that he designed Morpheus, and the City of Dreams portfolio to target the lucrative premium mass segment.

“With COD, it was always meant to be a next-gen IR. That was always the goal of Morpheus too, which completes our COD rebrand,” he said.

Once opened, the hotel tower willl offer 772 guest rooms, suites and villas, complemented by facilities including specialty restaurants, an executive lounge and a sky pool that is 130 meters above ground. Alain Ducasse will be opening two exclusive restaurants at Morpheus , while world renowned pâtissier Pierre Hermé is creating a sleek lounge serving the finest delicacies in Asia.

During the press briefing, Ho also spoke further about his new hotel brand “Libertine,” which will replace The Countdown, formerly the Hard Rock Hotel in CNY 2019.

Ho said the new hotel brand will involve a complete overhaul of the interior of The Countdown, with works to take place starting from CNY. The works are expected to take 18 months to complete.

Finally, Ho also spoke briefly about its plans in Cyprus, announcing that a groundbreaking is expected to take place on June 8, 2018. The temporary facility is due to open in the summer.
