James Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International, told the Japanese media on Wednesday that his company would be able to make its full contribution to Japan only in a major urban market, and that Osaka is the location he is aiming for.
Speaking to the Sankei Shinbun, Murren stated that “for us, Osaka is the top.” To a local television station he was quoted as declaring, “I think Osaka is the perfect place for an IR.”
Murren noted some of Osaka’s strengths in terms of infrastructure: “Kansai International Airport and Kobe Airport are nearby, and the Shinkansen and local railway network is developing.”
He also repeated that MGM was envisioning an investment of about 1 trillion yen (about US$9 billion)
Murren was in Osaka to participate in the Tenjin Festival, to which MGM contributed a festival boat and entertainment by the Blue Man Group.
