MGM to source seafood/alcohol from tsunami-hit region

Ari Kastrati, MGM Resorts’ senior vice-president for food & beverage strategy, held a meeting in Sendai city on Monday with five local seafood processing companies and a brewery, looking to establish relationships with the Japanese region that was devastated by the March 2011 tsunami.

He explained to his local audience that MGM customers are interested in helping recovery efforts in such disaster-struck areas.

Kastrati and his team explained the requirements for the local companies to become seafood and alcoholic beverage suppliers to MGM facilities in places like Las Vegas and Macau.

More than seven years after the tsunami that ravaged the Tohoku coastline and took the lives of more than 18,000 people, the local economy, particularly in the fisheries industry, has yet to recover to its pre-disaster levels.
