MGM’s new Cotai property to feature major art collection

MGM China’s new resort on Cotai, which is scheduled to open in the second half of this year, will feature a permanent collection of more than 300 pieces of art, the company said.

The works include antique carpets dating from the Qing Dynasty, modern and contemporary Asian paintings, and sculptures by renowned artists. Contributing artists include Hsiao Chin, Liu Dan, Liu Kuosung, and Macau’s own Ung Si Meng and Xue Song.

“It is a privilege to showcase outstanding works by celebrated Asian artists, including some extraordinary pieces that we have commissioned for our forthcoming permanent art collection at MGM Cotai, some of which are by local Macanese artists,” said Pansy Ho, co-chairperson and executive director of MGM China Holdings Limited.

“We recognize the rich history of Macau, and we are very proud to build on our own legacy in artistry and entertainment, while linking both industries to the affluent heritage of China and Asia,” she added.

Last week MGM China unveiled an 11-meter, 38-ton statue of a gilded golden lion that will command the north entrance to the resort, which will be known in Chinese as Mei Si Mei Gou Mui, which translates as “Beautiful lion, beautiful MGM.”

Featuring a jewellry box design, the four million square feet resort will have 1,400 rooms, a high end spa, retail offerings and food and beverage outlet.
