Nagasaki to establish third-party committee for IR operator selection

Nagasaki Governor Hodo Nakamura revealed on Saturday that a third-party committee would be established for the purpose of ensuring a fair selection of the prefecture’s IR operator partner.

The three firms participated in the recently concluded RFC process: Oshidori International, Casinos Austria, and Current Corporation.

Selection of the prefecture’s operator partner is expected to be made in the autumn, so long as there are no major policy shifts at the national level.

Governor Nakamura continues to express his enthusiasm for the initiative that would bring an IR to the Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Sasebo city.

“The IR will create business opportunities in a wide range of fields, such as food and transportation, as well as in tourism and leisure. It will also lead to an increase in the number of permanent residents in all of Kyushu’s prefectures,” he contended.

Sasebo Mayor Norio Tomonaga, speaking at the same event, also emphasized the role the IR could play in revitalizing the local economy and combatting population decline.

Nagasaki Prefecture is continuing efforts to attract the attention of other IR operators, as well as establishing policies to counter gambling addiction.
