New federation for casino workers in Macau formed

Three gaming trade unions, Gaming Employees Advancement Association, the New Gaming Employees Advancement Association and the Sands Venetian Employees Union have formed a new federation and set up a charitable fund for casino workers, named “Macau Positive Energy”, according to local media.

The new federation’s aim is to help gaming employees in Macau who are struggling to make ends meet.

Earlier this week, several members of the Gaming Employees Advancement Association had petitioned the government to stop granting more gaming tables.

Head of the union, Willis Chan Chi Kin, also called for a pay rise for gaming works of “no less than” 2.5 percent. Chan also urged operators to pay their gaming staff a holiday bonus, a Christmas bonus, as well as double pay for two months as a year-end bonus to “relieve gaming employees’ financial pressure”.
