No decision yet on casinos in Maharashtra: CM

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has reportedly turned down a proposal sent by the home department to legalize casinos in the state, according to inside sources.

"At least for now, chief minister has refused to approve the file, which means he is not interested in legalizing it. The file has been pending for almost a month now," said a senior officer in the chief minister's office.

According to local media, the state government was expected to make a call on legalizing casinos by May 2016 following a high court order, however, no official decision has yet been conveyed to the court, said sources.

The PIL filed by gaming lawyer Jay Satya earlier in the year is seeking direction for the government to implement the Maharashtra Casinos (Control and Tax) Act.

Currently, Goa and Sikkim are the only two states that have allowed casinos in India.
