No rush on gaming tax hike: DICJ

Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau director Paulo Martins Chan says more time is needed before the regulator can decide on a proposed tax hike for gaming operators, Macau TDM reports.

While voices have been pushing for an increase in tax for gaming operators, the gaming regulator says it’s still gathering information.

"We don't have such a plan at the moment, yet we're open to advice conducive to the gaming industry. We'll look into every possible aspect, and there's still time until the license renewal for us to listen to the society", said Chan, adding that their analysis is still at an initial stage.

Davis Fong, director of the University of Macau's Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming agreed that there is no need to rush for tax adjustments.

"What matters more, is whether or not the legal framework that governs the industry will sustain in a mature manner. I think this is the most important of all. It requires a holistic approach,” he said.
