Okada Manila employs robot recruitment officer

Okada Manila has enlisted its very first robot recruitment officer to fast track the hiring process for the new casino resort, which is looking to employ at least 5,000 people when it opens this year, local media reports.

The robot, named Selen, is tasked in screening applicants during the initial interview.

Terry Llamas, vice president of Okada Manila’s human resources department, said the idea for using a robot for recruitment is to give applicants the ability to interview for their position at any time of the day, any day of the week.

“It is impossible for us to have a full grasp of the candidates’ ability and qualification with that huge number of applicants,” Llamas explained.

In an earlier interview, Llamas explained while the robot interviewer was on trial, it was a useful addition to the recruitment process.

“One of the key advantages of having Selen on our team is her ability to conduct objective application assessment,” she said.

“She is currently programmed to conduct initial screening interviews with the goal of measuring the applicant’s general knowledge base and work related cognitive capacity,” she added.

According to Llamas, Selen is able to recognize basic emotional responses by monitoring facial expressions, and is loaded with carefully designed interview questions to help identify worthy applicants.

“We are able to sort out who we believe would be the best candidates to move forward for interview,” said Llamas. “We want to believe that using Selen would provide us with a more objective feedback of applicants.”

The 44-hectare property located in Entertainment City in Parañaque, is said to be the biggest integrated resort in the country once fully operational.

The people to be hired will include corporate professionals to resort managers and personnel, according to the company.
