Operations not affected by escalator fire: Genting

Operations will continue as usual at Resorts World Genting, despite a fire breaking out at an escalator in the property on Monday.

According to a statement from Resorts World Genting on Tuesday, the fire occurred in a multistorey escalator located between Genting Grand and First World Hotel at 6 pm on Monday.

Customers were quickly ushered away by the resorts’ fire response team, and no one was injured, Genting added. 

"The management has reported that no one was hurt and that the resort is not affected by the incident as the area is located in an isolated area. All operations continue as normal," it said on Tuesday.

Footage of the fire went viral on social media sites on Monday, showing the fire engulfing landscaping near the escalators. 

Genting Highlands Fire and Rescue Department officer Yusry Abdullah Sani said an investigation over the cause of the fire is underway.
